“Little Red Riding Hood” dress

Light and flowing Japanese silk printed with motifs of the fairy-tale “Little Red Riding Hood”. I remember being attracted to this fabric in Paris in 1938. Gathered bell sleeves. This design was labour intensive. “Hermīne Spainis-Balodis” – my designer’s label, I can proudly sew it into this dress.

Dress with stitching

Feminine, graceful style. A lot of work, but the result is good. I liked it, but the girls – not so much.

Black dress with ties

It seems I am addicted to woollen fabric with cashmere. Soft, supple, easy to sew. At first I tried fastening with buttons. Looked dull, as if sewn in a factory. I attached fastening ties of contrasting colour. Quite another dress.

Navy blue silk dress

The new silk crêpe georgette, produced at “Rīgas audums” in the early 1930s, is a wonderful fabric. Simple design, clear lines, nothing complicated. Yes, an elegant result!
